dragon age original characters and world state changes
As I've written a lot of fic over that time, I have decided to keep a resource here for the changes and important notes I keep. This is both for my own resource, as well as a good point for others to take a look at -- if it so interests.
Canon Worldstate - characters and pairings
- Dragon Age: Origins:
Lizbeth Cousland
- female human noble. fighter class.
- 22 at the beginning of Origins.
- romances Alistair Theirin.
- the both of them remain Grey Wardens, and support Anora Mac Tir in taking the role of Queen of Ferelden.
- becomes a respected Grey Warden Commander alongside Alistair.
- a year before the events of Inquisition take off, Lizbeth leaves on a mission to find a cure for the Calling. She returns unsuccessful.
- during the events of Veilguard, Lizbeth - having struck the killing blow to the archdemon Uthemeiel - begins to hear the Calling. After the defeat of the last three elven gods and the true sealing of the blight, the Calling comes to an end, saving Lizbeth from her fate.
- always has a mabari companion. All the ones she has in later life are offspring that go as far back as that of her first which stuck by her side during the events of Origins.
- Scarlet and Carver Hawke are her cousins. They, along with Fergus and his family, are her last surviving blood ties.
- Dragon Age II:
- female human. mage class.
- 24 at the beginning of II.
- has always had a complicated relationship between Anders and Fenris. ultimately romances Anders up until him and Justice blow up the Chantry. Makes the terrible decision to kill him, beliving that much of Anders is lost to Justice. The guilt of her actions sits with her heavily, especially during the war between mages and templars.
- grows closer to Fenris during the events of the war, the two of them eventually falling in love. it is never acted upon, as they both felt they had more time.
- Scarlet leaves to aid the Inquisition, and makes the decision to sacrifice herself by staying in the Fade so that others can live.
- Dragon Age: Inquisition:
Oscar Trevelyan
- male human. mage class.
- 29 going on 30 during the beginning of Inquisition. 35 during the events of Trespasser. 45 during the events of Veilguard.
- romances Dorian Pavus. The two are married three years after the events of Trespasser.
- adopts Mae in between the events of Inquisition and Trespasser. She is 6 when they first meet, and 17 at the time of Veilguard.
- hands the Inquisition over to Divine Victoria - who is Cassandra. Oscar however continues through the 'underground Inquisition'; dedicated to finding and stopping Solas from his future goals.
- settles down publicly in Kirkwall with his daughter, takes some time to recover from the events at the end of Trespasser.
- his brother, Stephan Trevelyan, gives Oscar back the title their parents took from him before sending him to the Circle.
- vows to save Solas from himself, despite the concerns others raise. Three years before the events of Veilguard a follower of Solas tries to assassinate Oscar, forcing him and Morrigan to go further underground in their work.
- retires from his role as Inquisitor at the end of Veilguard, leaving its future to one he's been training to take his place. returns to Tevinter permanently to be with his husband and daughter, and supports Dorian taking up the responsibility of Archon.
- Dragon Age: Veilguard:
Vincent Laidir
- male elf. mage class. lords of fortune faction.
- 44 at the beginning of Veilguard.
- romances Emmrich Volkarin.
- ultimately doesn't trust Solas, but is later convinced after learning his history and the truths from both Morrigan and Oscar that Solas can repent for his wrongdoings.
- knew Taash before the events of Veilguard - the two of them often worked in crews together a little after Taash first joined the Lords.
- convinces Solas to use his own life to sustain the Veil.
Original characters across the timeline and their roles:
Ellana Lavellan - elf - one of Leliana's spies within the Inquisition, and later, Dorian's bodyguard after his return to Tevinter (character created by flyppa, her canon Inquisitor who holds a special guest role in this universe).
Neria - elf - housekeeper to Dorian, and also a messenger for him and the Shadow Dragons. She was saved from a life of slavery, and while Dorian offered to organise a place for her to settle down and restart her life for herself, she instead decided to remain in his home and work for both him and his and Maevaris' cause.
Nassandra Mercar - elf - Shadow Dragon rogue, often takes down slave rings. She works closely with Tarquin and Ashur.
Stephan Trevelyan - human - templar, Oscar older brother.
Johanna Trevelyan - human - Chantry sister, Oscar's older sister.
Alexander - human - joins the underground Inquisition during the years between Trespasser and Veilguard. Later trained by Oscar to take over his role of Inquisitor.
Mae (Maeah) Trevelyan(-Pavus) - human - adopted daughter to Oscar and Dorian. Saved by the Inquisition pre-Trespasser during a dragon attack, Mae returned to Skyhold with other orphaned children. The Inquisition looked into finding safe new homes for the children, but Mae had already formed a bond with Oscar, and he decided to adopt her as his own. When Dorian returned for a visit after taking care of a few things in Tevinter, Oscar offered him the choice to take her up as his daughter also, which Dorian was more than happy to do.
She mainly lives with Oscar up until the attempted assassination attempt on his life by a follower of Solas. After that, Oscar and Morrigan fall into deeper hiding as they continue to work together to find Solas, and for her own safety Oscar sends Mae to live with Dorian. During the three years he is in hiding Mae decides to take up a role within the Shadow Dragons to help with her Pater's work, and later, after Dorian becomes Archon, she inherits his seat as Magisterium.
